Meet our founder, Mitch Shaver who was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in January, 2018. Mitch battled relentlessly against ALS for 7 years before his death in January, 2025. Mitch was a loving husband and dad to two amazing children. Through Mitch’s battle against ALS, he and his family learned first hand about the difficulties of living with ALS. He not only remained strong and dedicated in his own fight against ALS, but was inspired to help other people battling the disease. Thus, Mitch founded the Mitchell Leland Shaver Foundation in November, 2023. Mitch's vision was clear- make a positive impact on people with ALS and their families.
Living with ALS can bring many challenges- physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial. Our mission is to empower the ALS community by delivering financial assistance, raising awareness and educating others through real life experiences. While we cannot take away all of the burdens that ALS brings, our hope is to improve quality of life, raise awareness, and lessen the burdens of ALS as best we can.

2025 Scholarship Recipient- Please join us in congratulating Kerri Berkey! Kerri is studying accounting at Michigan State University. Congratulations Kerri on a job well done.

Our grants are named in honor of two of Mitch's dear friends that lost their battles to ALS. We are proud to award the following grants in honor of these brave men- Emanuel "Manny" Dines and Ronald "DLUX" Luxton Equipment grants.
